Rosie - 5 days new

HaPPy HaLLoWeeN!! I love Halloween! It's my second favorite holiday (Christmas is number 1). I've been a little behind this year though. With birthdays, photo sessions, planning a daddy daughter gala and planning a family trip, well, costumes have been last on the list. Regardless, I'm excited to get the kids dressed up and go out trick or treating! I hope you all have a fun night!!

So back to the photos.... Here's my beautiful niece at 5 days new. She sure gave me a run for my money - I think she peed on me at least 3 times, pooped twice and did NOT want to sleep. But she finally gave in and I was able to get a few images that I'm in love with. A big thanks again to Laura for the beautiful props. I'm like a kid in a candy store when I go to her studio!

Rosie's Birth Day - Calgary Birth Photography

Ashley patiently waited 12 extra days for little Rosie to arrive. Rosie held on just long enough so she wouldn't have to share her birthday with her auntie (not that I would've minded). But she came safe and sound and nice and rosy into the world.

Ashley did beautifully! I am amazed at how she handled everything. I keep telling her she should have a dozen kids because first of all, they're so dang cute! and secondly because she seems to breeze through pregnancy and delivery. No joke - 2 pushes and Rosie was here. All 8 pounds 14oz of her! I wish I could be like you, Ash.

Thanks for letting me be there. Oh, and the BYUI shirt my mom made since Rosie is grandbaby #11 and also Dave's (Rosie's dad) sport number!

Scarlett, 7 days new - Calgary Newborn Photography

I love this little button. After being at Scarlett's birth I've claimed her as one of my own. She is just the sweetest little thing.  Scarlett is baby number 5 for her mommy, and you'd never know that she's even had one baby. You look AMAZING Joanna!

Scarlett - Calgary Birth Photography

The phone rings. It's 4:14am. "You might want to make your way over here" she says with a laugh. I tell her I'm on my way, throw on my Lulus, grab my gear and rush out the door. There is no way she's having that baby any time soon, I thought. She sounds way too happy! I have time to stop for gas - I hope.

When I arrive it's quiet, almost peaceful. I head to the bedroom bathroom to find Joanna timing her contractions in the tub, mom and husband nearby. It's a hard feeling to explain, watching someone go through labor. You want to do whatever you can to take away the pain, but know that there's nothing you can do. I can only imagine what Steve was feeling as he held Joanna's hand through each contraction.

At 5:20am Joanna's water breaks and 15 minutes later the cries of a beautiful baby girl are heard. I'm tearing up as I write that. It's indescribable the feelings of being able to witness such an incredible miracle. The whole birth process is amazing. Thank you Joanna and Steve for allowing me to be there. It's a moment I'll never forget.

Thank you Joanna for letting me be a part of this.  Huge thanks to my wonderful, talented friend, Maren, for the beautiful song in the slideshow.
